
Still swamped by wedding stuff (16 days and counting!), but while we’re on the subject of childhood, here’s a fascinating Flickr photo set contrasting the 1963 and 1991 versions of Richard Scarry’s Best Word Book Ever. There’s a lot of changes you might expect: a few genders switch around (more men in the kitchen, more ladies on streamrollers), and most references to Indians are gone. Plus a few more mysterious adjustments (“Extra mouse. No apparent reason.”) Also, evidently it’s no longer PC to be a giant elephant cowboy.
